Dr. Adina Cimet is a sociologist, coopereted in the past with YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in New York. She received a Licenciatura in Sociology from UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) in 1974, and her MA. in 1979 on the basis of the dissertation The Ashkenazi Community in Mexico: A Dialogue Among Ideologies, 1912-1990. Adina Cimet obtained her Ph.D. in 1997 from Columbia University in New York on the basis of the dissertation Ashkenazi Jews in Mexico: Ideologies in the Structuring of a Community.

She was born in Mexico City in a Jewish family with Polish roots. Her father Ruben Cimet (1923-2008), a well-known sculptor and architect, was born in Hrubieszów (Lublin Voivodeship) so Adina Cimet chose Lublin as a pilot city to teach American high school students about the life of Jews in Eastern Europe before World War II. She is interested in the period from the beginning of Jewish settlement in Poland and Lublin (13th century) until the Holocaust.
